Puerto Natales/El Calafate - Patagonia Lodge
Welcome to Patagonia! Few places on earth offer up such dramatic and breathtaking landscapes, the most iconic of which are contained within Torres del Paine National Park and Bernardo O'Higgins National Park, which you’ll be exploring over the next days. You will be collected from the airport in Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales or El Calafate by an Intrepid representative for a private transfer to your accommodation. Your base for the next four nights is a beautiful and sustainable hotel, serving up unbeatable views of the surrounding fjord, mountains and glaciers, with huge windows that bring the Patagonia’s scenery inside. All activities are weather dependent, so on arrival you’ll meet your local guide, discuss the forecast for the coming days and plan tomorrow’s activities based on your interests. Enjoy dinner at the fantastic on-site restaurant then rest up for the adventure ahead.
Torres del Paine National Park
Over the next three days, you’ll have the option to pick several half day and full day activities to explore the incredible surrounding areas. Your local guide will be on hand to help choose the excursions that suit you best, and of course to accompany you and share information on the otherworldly landscapes.
You may like to head out and explore the Balmaceda and Serrano Glaciers within Bernardo O'Higgins National Park, which can only be accessed by sea. Cruise through the Ultima Esperanza fjord, passing by glaciers, waterfalls and small estancias, eventually arriving at the Balmaceda glacier. Continue to the end of the fjord and take a short walk to a viewpoint looking over the Serrano glacier before cruising back the way you came (be sure to look out for imperial cormorants and sea lions as you go!)
Another excellent option is a full day tour exploring Torres del Paine National Park. First stop by Cueva del Milodon, a 200m long cavern where many extinct species were discovered, then enter the park and come face to face with a landscape filled with bright blue lagoons, ice-capped mountains, an abundance of wildlife and famous granite towers.
One of the real showstoppers of the region is Lago Gray, a picturesque lake fringed by the icy blue Grey Glacier. The best way to get up close and personal with this serene scenery is during a boat excursion, cruising past pristine icebergs and inspiring mountain views. Be sure to have your camera ready as these are scenes you won’t want to forget!
Or perhaps you’d like to find your feet with one of the most famous activities within Torres del Paine National Park – hiking. There are many wonderful walks available within the park, ranging from two to eleven hours, and your local guide will help coordinate a walk that suits your fitness levels and interests.
Puerto Natales/El Calafate
Your Patagonian adventure comes to an end today. You will be dropped at the airport in Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales or El Calafate to line up with your flight.
