Ushuaia – Embarkation Day
Welcome to Ushuaia! Make your own way to port for a 3 pm embarkation time. There’s no time to waste as we set sail along the Beagle Channel, where you can get your first taste of the wonders to come. Members of the expedition team will help you spot wildlife like penguins, sea lions and black-browed albatross. Members of the expedition team will help you spot wildlife from the deck. Enjoy your first dinner on board and get to know your crew and fellow travellers.
Spend roughly two days crossing the infamous Drake Passage, named after the English explorer, Sir Frances Drake, even though the first successful crossing was achieved by the Dutch navigator Willem Schouten. Get prepared for your time in Antarctica with the first of your onboard lectures, presented by the scientists who are accompanying your tour.
Antarctic Peninsula – South Shetland Islands
Spend the next four days exploring the Great White Continent. While every departure will be different, you can expect to make twice-daily excursions in search of wildlife and polar wonders. One day might see you cruising around icebergs on a Zodiac, the next you might find yourself hiking to an Adelie penguin rookery. Maybe you’ll see the wreckage of a whaling ship off Enterprise Island, or see the hut that sheltered a Swedish expedition crew over 100 years ago in Hope Bay. In the evenings you can enjoy talks and presentations from the expert team for more detailed insight into this incredible environment and its inhabitants. It is also possible to organise optional excursions at your own expense such as kayaking, mountaineering, cross-country skiing, camping and even a polar plunge!
Return to Ushuaia across the Drake Passage. Get your last wildlife-spotting done from the deck and enjoy the final presentations from the team. This is a good chance to start editing your photos and jotting last thoughts down in your diary before you hit land again.
