Buenos Aires
Bienvenidos! Welcome to Argentina. Cosmopolitan, cultured and chic, Buenos Aires has European sensibilities with a fiery Latin heart. There no activities planned for today and you are free to arrive at any time. Perhaps uncover the different districts of the city, each with its own unique take on Argentine street life and where all the Portenos (local residents) are justifiably proud of their city. If you want to kick off this adventure with a great food experience and avoid the tourist traps, there will be an envelope waiting for you at the hotel reception with some recommendations of our favourite parilla (grill) restaurants around the city. The hotel will be able to assist if you wish to make a reservation. Alternatively, you may wish to join the Gourmet Bites and Sights tour run by our sister company Urban Adventures. Please ask your booking agent for further information or to reserve your spot. On this optional tour you’ll explore the neighbourhood of Recoleta, one of the most popular districts in Buenos Aires, and one of the best areas in which to have a gourmet Argentinian food experience. Snack on authentic empanadas, traditional parrillas, sip on a glass of Malbec, and finish it all off with some of Argentina’s famous dulce de leche.
Buenos Aires
Start the day by meeting your guide at 11am this morning in the hotel foyer. From there, travel to the lively neighbourhood of La Boca for a unique cooking class experience. Join your hosts, Rosa and Julian, at a Buenos Aires community kitchen. Get your hands working as you make empanadas and alfajores, and then enjoy your hard work as you feast on your creations over a relaxed lunch. Some of the food you have prepared will also go towards meals served to 200 adults and children that the kitchen supports daily. Your class will finish around 2.30pm, when you can return to the hotel or continue to explore the colourful streets and houses of La Boca at your leisure. In the late afternoon, make your way to the trendy area of Palermo Hollywood for a masterclass in Argentinean wine culture. Taste your first glass of the country’s famous Malbec at an art gallery, and learn what makes Argentine art – and this wine – so unique. Continue on to a wine cellar for your own personal tasting bar. Led by a local expert, learn everything about Argentine wine, from its culture and origins, to how it’s cultivated, processed, and bottled. Get those taste buds working as you taste many of the different wines that Argentina has to offer. Finish at one of Palermo’s best local bars, where you can taste a real fernet. Hopefully you’ll discover why this bitter digestif is loved by local Argentineans. Return to the hotel or, better yet, choose to head on to a local salsa bar to dance the night away.
Notes: The meeting time for the evening activity is 5.45pm. The meeting location is Milo Lockett Art Gallery, Cabrera 5507, Palermo Hollywood (Palermo Viejo), Buenos Aires.
